Why I started projects_jsa

ProjectsJSA launched in early 2019. 

After handing over the role of CEO at the Regional Australia Institute to two wonderful colleagues in February, I wanted to go beyond research and policy work and get involved in making some of the change I saw was so desperately needed in regions.  

My goal for ProjectsJSA is to share my knowledge, experience and networks with people and organisations working to make a difference on some of the issues I think really matter to Australia right now.

Increasing migration to regional areas, preparing for the economic changes coming to many of our resources regions, growing Australia's small cities and restoring the landscapes and communities in the Murray-Darling Basin and elsewhere are all issues that motivate me and where we need change.

Through ProjectsJSA I provide support to a range of organisations that can make a difference on these issues. Federal and state governments, the not-for-profit sector, corporates with more than just a profit motive and leading regional organisations are the clients for whom I add real value.

It has been a return to consulting for me, a business I learnt from the ground up from 2008-11 when I worked as a Principal Consultant with Inovact Consulting. That experience taught me what it takes to deliver consulting services that really make an impact for clients.

Coming back to consulting 8 years later I feel I have learnt an enormous amount and can bring a new level of confidence and leadership. Something that is really needed from any trusted advisor.  

My networks have grown enormously and I have added new skills in communications and advocacy that complement my foundational expertise in strategy, facilitation and policy analysis.

Overall, I'm excited to have set up ProjectsJSA and to work with inspiring people on practical projects that really matter to our nations future.

Leader in Regional Australia


Regional Australia Institute 2011-2019

I led the Institute as CEO from 2015-2019 achieving major change in regional policies through research and public advocacy. 

Under my leadership, the RAI secured investment and long term partnerships for the organisation with the Australian Government and all States and Territories, four Universities and a range of major corporates such as Bendigo Bank and NBNCo. 

Prior to 2015 I undertook the start-up of the organisation as Interim CEO and led policy and research functions as Deputy CEO.


Consulting, NFP and Government Experience


Inovact Consulting 2008-2011

As Principal Consultant I led major engagements across water and natural resource management policy, evaluation of programs and advisory services to agricultural research and industry bodies. 

This experience provides a foundation for the professional consulting practice of Projects_jsa and enables me to bring together and lead consulting teams for larger pieces of advisory work. 


Cape York Partnerships – 2006-07

I was a member of the Welfare Reform Design Team in Cape York, that developed a new model for welfare in remote communities. 

My role was to work between the design team based in Cairns and engagement team based in the Cape to facilitate new program development.

Australian Government 2004-2008

I worked in a variety of policy roles across climate change, natural resource management and agricultural policy.
